What is Title I?
Elkin Elementary School is a School-Wide Title I school with 47% receiving free or reduced lunch. Three highly qualified and experienced teachers serve students in the area of reading using a combination of individual, small group, and whole group instruction.
Teachers utilize data through mClass and DIBELS assessments. Student needs are identified, and instruction is targeted according to specific need. Our schools’ reading enhancement program is called STAR (Steps To Accelerated Reading), and areas of focus are comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, phonemic awareness and phonics.
